On and off the field, 2024 surely can’t get much worse than the last couple of years for Everton.
There is still a lot of uncertainty at the club as we don’t know who is going to own the football club. That is a situation we need to get sorted as soon as possible to give everyone a feeling of security.
It feels like the world is against Everton right now, so the players have to stand up and be counted. They do need help, though, and so does Dyche as we enter the January transfer window. We need to bring some faces in and freshen things up, but that will be difficult with the financial position we find ourselves in.

We’ve got a lot of people in certain positions who are not being used and it is going to be a tough task for Kevin Thelwell to entice teams to try and take a few players off our books. In terms of what we need to bring in, I think we’re lacking in the final third and we could do with a No.10 who can split defences. It wasn’t long ago we had Sigurdsson, Rooney and Klaassen. They are the type of players who take risks and we don’t have anyone who is prepared to do that, with James Garner possibly the one exception. It’s so simple to pass backwards, but no one seems to want to drive forward with the ball and take people on.
I know we’ve been creating opportunities all season, but many were only half chances. We have made our luck through hard-work, but not a lot of it is synchronised. We pass the buck of hoping someone can create a piece of individual brilliance, whether that’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Amadou Onana or Abdoulaye Doucoure.
