Roy Keane believes Anthony Martial should play at a lower level because he "scores a goal every 14 years" in the Premier League.
Keane's scathing review of the 27-year-old came after Newcastle's 1-0 victory against Manchester United at St James' Park on Saturday. Martial was hooked by Erik ten Hag during the second after being spotted arguing with his manager earlier in the game.
The Frenchman has struggled for consistency since joining United from Monaco for an initial £36million in September 2015, a transfer that made him the world's most expensive teenager. He's scored just 90 goals in all competitions for the Red Devils.
Martial is out of contract at the end of the season. Although United have the option to extend that deal by a further 12 months, Keane thinks it's time for them to find a more prolific centre-forward. Ten Hag's side have scored just 16 league goals this season.
Keane was asked his opinion on United's latest defeat - their 10th of the season in all competitions - during Sky Sports' Super Sunday coverage. The ex-captain said: "We mention Martial... we forgive Martial because he scores a goal every 14 years.
"But let me tell you when at Newcastle under pressure, we get that ball into you, you better get hold of that ball to get us up the pitch and a bit of breathing space. He’s touching balls off and gives the ball away cheaply. You may as well go down the leagues.
"Manchester United had been trying to get rid of him a few years ago. You judge Manchester United on what they do in the big matches. If you can’t deal with that, maybe you’re not a Manchester United player."
