Ruben Amorim has revealed he had questioned his future at Sporting Clube de Portugal following talks with West Ham and links with Chelsea, with Mauricio Pochettino's future still in the balance.
Previously tipped to take over from David Moyes, Amorim found himself in London last month to negotiate with West Ham. The Portuguese boss has also been linked with Manchester United and Liverpool following his successful stint in Portugal, during which he has led Sporting to their second league title in four years.
Amorim later issued an apology to the Sporting faithful for his engagement with West Ham, acknowledging his trip as a 'mistake.' With the Lions winning another league title, Amorim appears likely to remain in Lisbon.
When asked about his future following Sporting's victory over Estoril on Saturday, he dismissed the idea of flying to England again, despite initial doubts over his future. He told A Bola: «This is the place where I've been the happiest, where I've felt the most fulfilled professionally, let's say.
»I want to continue here and there are rumours but I certainly won't be catching another plane to England. What changed is that I've learned that it's not worth saying whether something will happen or not.
«I am under contract and we don't know what tomorrow will bring but I learned that I was the one that created this [rumours] with it being the first season in which I had doubts [over his future]. If I didn't win [the league], I would leave but now, having won it, you question 'what if it goes wrong?'
