Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim has hit back at suggestions that he interviewed for the Liverpool job last week despite reports from Portugal.
The Liverpool Echo revealed that stories claiming the 39-year-old had verbally agreed a deal to replace Jurgen Klopp at Anfield at the end of the season were premature. Several candidates are being assessed with Michael Edwards leading the process.
Amorim remains one of the favourites to take over from Klopp but has stringently denied speaking to the club about the role. Talking ahead of Sporting's Liga Portugal clash against relegation-threatened Gil Vicente on Friday, he said: "To end everything that has been reported, this is the last time I will talk about my future.

"There was no interview or agreement with Liverpool. The only thing we all want is to be crowned champions and nothing will change.
"I’ll say it again, I’m Sporting’s coach. There was no interview with any club or agreement with any club. I am focused, as always, on defending my club. And as I have nothing else to say, there won’t be any interviews or agreements with Sporting’s coach - that’s it, that matter is resolved.

Sporting have opened up a four-point gap over their closet rivals Benfica after a run of 13 wins in 14 league games. They also have a game in hand heading into their next clash on Friday.
