Paddy McNair believes the welcome return of Shea Charles will give Northern Ireland a massive lift as they aim to close out a poor qualifying campaign with a Windsor Park win over Denmark.
The 4-0 defeat in Finland was a seventh loss in nine games in a Euro 2024 qualifying campaign that concludes against the classy Danes on Monday night.
Southampton midfielder Charles missed the Helsinki defeat following his sending-off against Slovenia, but the former Manchester City youngster’s class and composure will be needed as Michael O’Neill’s side look to salvage some pride and lift morale.
The 20-year-old has made a huge contribution to this campaign at a time when experienced players were pulling out with injuries.
Middlesbrough ace McNair is a huge admirer of Charles and predicts that the youngster has a glittering career ahead of him.

“I think Shea is a brilliant player, I think he can play at the highest level,” said former Manchester United player McNair.
“When he came in under Ian Baraclough, you could see the ability he had, and in every game he plays, he performs really well.
“He has that composure about him and he makes the game look easy.”
O’Neill is also thrilled to welcome back Charles as his side look to record a first win in Group H which isn’t against San Marino.
