Son Heung-min has shared how a pep talk he gave to Timo Werner in German helped the striker end his 682-day goal drought. Werner's first Premier League goal in nearly two years came after some encouraging words from Tottenham captain Son.
Tottenham's season is now focused on securing a Champions League spot, and things are looking up after they scored three goals in just 11 minutes against Crystal Palace. This included Werner's first goal for the club.
Werner had been struggling to find the back of the net at Red Bull Leipzig before moving to Spurs on loan in January, scoring only two goals in 14 games. But things started to change when Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou signed him in January.
Despite missing a big chance in the first half against the Eagles, Werner proved why he's a Champions League winner by scoring later in the game. Son's pep talk in German — a language he learned during his seven years playing in Germany with Bayer Leverkusen — seemed to do the trick.
Son said: «Timo had a fantastic game and he helps a lot for the team. As an attacking player, when you miss a good chance like that you can get a little bit down. I just told him to keep going in German because he has a lot of potential as he showed when he got the equaliser.»
Now, Tottenham are gearing up for a crucial match against top-four rivals Aston Villa on Sunday. If they want to secure a Champions League spot, they'll need to keep finding the net — and that could mean finding more goals from Werner.
