Bayern Munich will have a new manager at the helm when they are expected to take on Tottenham in pre-season at the beginning of August. The German club confirmed on Wednesday morning that current boss Thomas Tuchel will depart the Allianz Arena at the end of the campaign.
Currently eight points behind Bayer Leverkusen at the summit of the Bundesliga, Bayern are also in danger of crashing out of the Champions League at the Round of 16 stage following a 1-0 defeat away at Lazio in the first leg between the sides. Tuchel, who had originally signed a deal with the club until June 2025, will depart the German giants a year earlier than planned as Bayern «pursue a new footballing direction with a new head coach for the 2024/25 season».
With the former Chelsea boss to leave the Bavarian club in the summer, it does raise question marks over what exactly will happen with Eric Dier come the end of the 2023/24 campaign. Very much out of favour at Tottenham with limited appearances coming his way under Ange Postecoglou even when the team were in the midst of a defensive injury crisis, the centre-back bade farewell to Spurs in early January following nine-and-a-half years in the capital.
Reuniting with former Tottenham teammate Harry Kane at the Allianz Arena, the 30-year-old, who was due to be out of contract in north London this summer, penned a loan deal with Bayern until the end of the season, with the Bundesliga side having an option to extend his stay by a further year. Brought in to add to the defensive options at Bayern, the England international has already played a decent amount of football across five appearances for his new club.
