Former Chelsea defender Wayne Bridge says he hopes Todd Boehly does not continue his habit of sacking managers and keeps faith in Mauricio Pochettino despite Tuesday’s embarrassing 1-0 defeat to Middlesbrough.
Questions linger over Pochettino’s grip on proceedings at Stamford Bridge with the League Cup first leg loss a low point in his maiden season. The Blues only remain in the top ten in the Premier League on goal difference despite not having to contend with European football this term.
Former England international Bridge says some Chelsea players need to be held responsible for the current situation the club finds itself in and has urged Boehly to give Pochettino time to turn the tide after another hectic summer of transfers.
Asked byfootball.london whether he believes Boehly will wield his axe again, Bridge replied: “I hope not, just because I think he [Pochettino] is a generally good guy and manager who has done well with younger players in the past.
“It has been inconsistent from Chelsea, if they go a goal behind they seem to struggle. You look at the chances they had yesterday [vs Middlesbrough], if they put them away, they probably would have been fine.”
Bridge added: “I do hope he gets the chance. You could say that some of the players have maybe let him down. But it’s such a crazy place there at the moment with the amount of money they’ve spent and the way it’s going.
