Timo Werner has joined Tottenham on loan for the rest of the season.
Spurs confirmed the loan signing of former Chelsea forward Werner for the rest of the 2023/24 campaign from RB Leipzig.
There will be a £15million buy option in the agreement, should he impress at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Werner struggled at Chelsea following a £47.5m move to the Premier League in 2020, scoring 23 times across 89 games.
He returned to Leipzig for £25.3m in 2022 and has scored 18 times in 54 games.
Now he is heading back to the Premier League with a point to prove.
The promise of first-team football may have been what convinced Werner to join a rival team of his former club, with Red Bull Soccer’s technical director, Mario Gomez, revealing Werner is set to get more than his fair share of opportunities to impress.
‘It’s a win-win for everyone,’ Gomez told Sport1, as quoted by Metro.
«Germany benefits from it. We benefit from it because we get a player going.
»He will play regularly, that’s what Tottenham has conveyed to us."
‘Timo wants match practice, which I can’t guarantee him at the moment,’ RB Leipzig head coach Marco Rose added.
‘He wants to go to the European Championships, and maybe it will help us if he comes back in top condition under certain circumstances.
«We wish him all the best and keep our fingers crossed that he gets back on his feet there and gains self-confidence. That’s the most important thing for him.»
