Yves Bissouma was sent off for a second time this season after a poor second half tackle on Nottingham Forest midfielder Ryan Yates. It left Tottenham with 20 minutes plus stoppage time to see out a two goal advantage at the City Ground.
Yates had been involved in an earlier incident that saw Spurs left-back Destiny Udogie booked. He called for referee Andy Madley to show the Italian a yellow card and was rewarded when the defender was punished for his challenge.
Udogie will now miss the next game against Everton having reached the threshold for cards this season. Bissouma will also miss that game and at least two others over the festive period after his late tackle collided with Yates above his shinpad and below his knee.
Bissouma was sent off earlier this season in the 1-0 win over Luton, picking up two yellow cards in the space of several minutes. Tottenham have also had Udogie sent off for two yellow cards during the loss to Chelsea. Cristian Romero was sent off in the same game for a reckless tackle of his own.
Spurs had already seen Brennan Johnson go off in the first half after taking a blow to his head. Ange Postecoglou's side had moved into a healthy lead despite losing players on a regular basis. Richarlison nodded in the opener on the cusp of half time whilst Dejan Kulusevski rattled in a second, taking advantage of two Matt Turner errors in the Forest goal.
