Ange Postecoglou will take his Tottenham to the south coast for a clash against Brighton without another key player. The Spurs boss has had to navigate the last few months without James Maddison and Micky van de Ven with Rodrigo Bentancur joining the influential duo on the injury list just a few weeks after returning from an ACL injury.
The Uruguay international had made a number of substitute appearances before being deployed in a deeper role for the loss against Aston Villa. However, he lasted just 32 minutes after being on the end of an awful tackle from Matty Cash which resulted in some of his ankle ligaments tearing.
Following that defeat, Spurs went on to win three of their next five games which included an impressive draw away at Manchester City. An improvement in results directly coincided with the return of Cristian Romero, however that option will now unavailable for Postecoglou over the next few weeks.
«It’s not so great with Romero,» he said when asked for an update on Romero after he left the weekend clash against Everton with an injury. «He had a scan the other day. He’s got a hamstring strain. So we’re looking at probably four weeks, five weeks for him.»
With Romero out of the starting XI, Emerson Royal keeping his place seems likely after he filled in at left-back in the absence of the suspended Destiny Udogie. The Italy international missing the win against Everton was due to an accumulation of yellow cards and therefore he will likely immediately return with Postecoglou desperately needing his abilities on the ball for Thursday's clash against Brighton.
