Chelsea cult hero Marcos Alonso could reportedly be on his way back to the Premier League just a year after joining Barcelona.
And that would see him reignite his rivalry with Tottenham, who he has enjoyed many wins over in recent years.
As a result of the Blaugrana's financial difficulties, the 32-year-old is one of three players including Inigo Martinez and Inaki Pena yet to be registered this season.
It has seen the Spanish full-back miss the club's opening two LaLiga matches, with the defender now facing an uncertain future due to Financial Fair Play rules.
According to Spanish reporter Gerard Romero, Alonso, who won the Spanish title last campaign, has a proposal from an unnamed Premier League side, which he is considering.
Alonso is claimed to be keen to continue in Catalonia, but Barca are hoping to offload him in their quest to raise funds.
This could see him return to England just one year after leaving Chelsea by mutual consent in September 2022.
The ex-Real Madrid man has spent the bulk of his career in England's top-flight, having played for Bolton and Sunderland before joining Chelsea in 2016.
And it was with the west Londoners where he became a constant thorn in Spurs' side — chipping in with three goals and as many assists against them.
Two of those strikes came in their August 2017 meeting in a 2-1 win for Chelsea in what was Spurs' first league game at Wembley.
He even aimed a dig at Ange Postecoglou's club earlier this month after featuring in Barca's pre-season 4-2 friendly win over Spurs for the Joan Gamper Trophy.
Taking to Instagram following the match, he quipped: «Some things never change [yawning emoji]. Barca 4 — 2 Tottenham.»
