Tottenham player ratings vs Forest - Van de Ven superb, Werner excellent as subs make difference
Tottenham won 3-1 against Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on Sunday evening.
Ange Postecoglou made one change to his Tottenham team with Pape Matar Sarr returning to the team at the expense of Rodrigo Bentancur. Spurs needed to win to clamber back into fourth spot on goal difference with a game in hand after Aston Villa's 3-3 draw at home against Brentford.
To get all three points though they had to get past former boss Nuno Espirito Santo making his first return to the club since his ill-fated spell in 2021. The Portuguese was at the helm for just a handful of months before being replaced by Antonio Conte and he came back to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with a Forest team that was unbeaten in its previous three matches.
Spurs took the lead 15 minutes in. It came with another big involvement from Timo Werner as his low ball across the six-yard box was diverted into the goal by Forest's Murillo. It came from great work from Yves Bissouma in the build-up and was Spurs' first first-half goal in their stadium in 2024.
Forest levelled before the half-hour mark. They broke swiftly and Anthony Elanga found too much space to strike a low cross which deflected into the path of Chris Wood to stroke home.
Both teams hit the woodwork as the first half progressed and Postecoglou made two changes at the break, Rodrigo Bentancur and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg on for Sarr and Bissouma.
Spurs responded with two goals in quick succession. First Micky van de Ven fired a rocket of an effort into the net from just inside the Forest box. Then Pedro Porro added another, connecting with a half-volley inside the area after Bentancur headed on James Maddison's cross.
