Jurgen Klopp has revealed what he said to Roberto De Zerbi when embracing the Italian after Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Brighton & Hove Albion.
The Reds had fallen behind to an early Danny Welbeck goal inside the opening two minutes at Anfield on Easter Sunday, but strikes from Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah earned them all three points. The victory was Klopp’s first over De Zerbi at the fifth time of asking, following the Brighton boss’ appointment in October 2022, and saw Liverpool reclaim top spot in the Premier League table.
Klopp will step down as Reds manager in the summer after nine years at Anfield, and De Zerbi is one of the leading contenders to replace the German after impressing at Brighton.

And having signed Alexis Mac Allister from the Seagulls last summer, while also missing out on Moises Caicedo, the Liverpool boss is in awe of what De Zerbi has continued to achieve at the South Coast club.
“I told De Zerbi to keep turning the football world upside down,” Klopp revealed to BBC Radio 5 Live when asked what he had said to the Italian. “I will watch it from some distance. I respect so much what he’s doing.
“It is incredible what he has done, Brighton have lost Alexis Mac Allister and Moises Caicedo, they have lots of injuries, but he puts a team like that together. An incredible job.”
Meanwhile, having seen Mac Allister set up Salah’s winning goal in a man of the match performance against his former club, De Zerbi was full of praise for his former player as he shared his delight at seeing the Argentine shine at Anfield.
