Ally McCoist has said Micky van de Ven looks like he is on rollerblades after a disastrous two minutes for Tottenham Hotspur against Newcastle United.
Spurs headed into the clash at St James' Park in the knowledge that the race for the top-four has become even more important. Following English clubs' disappointing performances in Europe this week, the Premier League is by no means guaranteed a fifth Champions League qualification spot.
Tottenham are currently inside the top four on goal difference ahead of Aston Villa but that is in jeopardy after falling 2-0 down inside as many first-half minutes. Eddie Howe's men took the lead as Destiny Udogie was outmuscled off the ball allowing Alexander Isak to easily cut inside Van de Ven to fire home.
While St James' Park regathered their collective breaths it was 2-0. Again Van de Ven was easily beaten and left on the floor as Anthony Gordon doubled the advantage.
On co-commentary duty for TNT Sports, McCoist was in shock at how poor the Dutch defender looked. «I have got to say, I think van de Ven has got rollerblades on. I don’t know what happened there,» he exclaimed.
«Anthony Gordon does really well, and I don’t know whether it is in Anthony Gordon’s head that he’s already been down a bit earlier. He cuts inside him and the big fella goes down again, it’s unbelievable! Where is he going?
