Alphonso Davies will definitely be unavailable to Bayern today, while Arsenal duo Martin Ødegaard and Bukayo Saka are doubtful for the Champions League clash.
Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies will miss today’s Champions League second leg against Arsenal, after being booked in the teams’ quarter-final opener last week.
A summer target for Real Madrid, Davies incurred a one-match ban for receiving his third yellow card of the European campaign, as Bayern and Arsenal drew 2-2 at the Emirates.
This is the latest point of the Champions League season at which a player can be suspended for accumulated bookings. All outstanding yellow cards have been wiped after the quarter-finals, to ensure that footballers cannot be banned for the final unless they have to serve a suspension for a red card.
Bayern will also be without forwards Serge Gnabry and Kingsley Coman in the return leg in Munich, as both have muscle injuries.
Arsenal, meanwhile, are sweating on the fitness of Martin Ødegaard and Bukayo Saka, who picked up knocks in the Gunners’ weekend Premier League defeat to Arsenal.
Ødegaard was replaced with 10 minutes remaining on Sunday, with Arteta telling reporters that the team captain “felt something” and “was not able to continue”.
Saka played the full 90 minutes against Villa, but could be seen limping late on.
“Hopefully [Odegaard and Saka will be fit to face Bayern],” Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta said on Tuesday.
“We’ve had less than 48 hours to recover from the [Villa] game and we’ve had very little training, so we will assess them tomorrow and see how they are.”
Bayern host Arsenal today, Wednesday 17 April 2024. Kick-off at the Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany, is scheduled for 3pm ET/12 noon PT.
