Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez face a race against time to be fit for Liverpool's Carabao Cup final vs Chelsea.
Both players missed the Reds' 4-1 win over Luton Town in midweek and their fitness is being monitored ahead of the final at Wembley Stadium on Sunday. Speaking on Friday, assistant manager Pep Lijnders was asked about Liverpool's current injury issues.
«Dom [Szoboszlai], Darwin, and Mo, we have to really see,» said Lijnders. «We have two more days. Today's session and tomorrow's session. In the last minute we will check. If they can be there it will be great, to be honest.»
Alisson Becker, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota will not be fit in time for the clash, however, and are out until after next month’s international break. Alisson has a hamstring injury, Alexander-Arnold aggravated a knee problem which sidelined him in January and Jones has an ankle strain and none will return before the March 31 Premier League match against Brighton.
«Ali, muscle injury, after the international break, it will really take time,» Lijnders said. «Trent, lateral ligament. He will be after the international break. Jots, medial ligament. He will be after the international break.
»Curtis has high ankle strain. He will be [back] in and around the international break. After the international break means that we are not sure [the exact date]."
