Ange Postecoglou will be hoping that the goals flow for Timo Werner at Tottenham as he gets set to return to the Premier League. Having spent two years with Chelsea between 2020 and 2022 before returning to former club RB Leipzig on a permanent transfer, the 27-year-old is now on the verge of sealing a move to Spurs on a loan deal for the remainder of the 2023/24 campaign.
football.london understands that Tottenham will have an option to make the switch permanent at the end of the current campaign, with the fee being no more than £15.5million. Werner's impending arrival at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium comes at the perfect time for the football club as they try and negotiate the coming weeks without captain Son Heung-min due to his international commitments.
Able to operate either playing from the left wing or as a striker, Werner will also give Postecoglou bags of pace and his energy to press high up the pitch. All eyes will be on how he fares in front of goal, though, especially after enduring a frustrating two seasons at Stamford Bridge.
Ridiculed at times for some of his misses, Werner did still manage to contribute with double figures in his two seasons after notching 12 goals and 11 goals respectively in 2020/21 and 2021/22. Although the goals may have been missing at times as Chelsea looked for a prolific marksman, the German international did come in for plenty of praise from his Blues teammates for what else he brought to the team.
