Does David Raya continue in goal? Or is it time Aaron Ramsdale is handed a recall? That's certainly the biggest dilemma on Mikel Arteta's plate ahead of Arsenal's Champions League clash against Sevilla.
With some supporters chanting the name of the former after the latter almost gifted Chelsea a third goal at the weekend, it's clear who they'd like to see in between the posts tonight (Tuesday). This a sentiment echoed by many observers who feel, based on form, the England international deserves to be reinstated.
In fairness to those who support this particular argument, Arteta has brought the situation upon himself by not stating who his first-choice goalkeeper is — even though it's quite obvious at this point — and claiming the battle between Raya and Ramsdale is a meritocracy.
Having said that, theArsenal boss, probably, already knows the decision he will make against Sevilla, yet wasn't giving anything away when quizzed about rotating his two senior goalkeepers: «We will see tomorrow with the line-up,» he said in the pre-match press conference. «All the players available have chances to play and I'm sure that I will not take a decision based on an only action [of the game].»
If Arteta has no plans to make a decision based on events from the Chelsea game, that's perfectly fine and understandable. But he could be influenced heavily by the La Liga side expecting to start Youssef En-Nesyri, who has scored some big goals for the club in 2023 alone, upfront.
