The international break is often a frustration for club fans and understandably so. After a win against Manchester City in the league all we want is to build on that successful victory and push on toward the excitement that lies ahead.
However, there are benefits to this interruption to domestic action and for the Gunners, it runs deeper than just the obvious benefit of allowing the likes of Bukayo Saka, William Saliba, Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli to return to full fitness. The recruitment team can take some time without the distraction of an Arsenal game or several to peruse what could be on offer ahead of the January transfer window.
With competitive qualifiers and some friendlies going on, plenty of exciting talents are sure to be given an opportunity. With that in mind, football.london takes a look at three players we think the club could, or rather should, be monitoring over the next week.
Youssouf Fofana
For me, Youssouf Fofana won my vote when I watched him at the Emirates Cup completely dominate an Arsenal side preparing to face Manchester City in the Community Shield. The Frenchman scored which grabbed the headlines but it was everything outside of his goal that gripped me.
The dominant tackling, the immediacy of how keen he was to progress the play and the way in which he executed his plan to help his team. He’s been called up to the France squad and even amongst the talent on offer to Didier Deschamps he should be getting chances and arguably should even be starting soon.
In the summer there were suggestions Nottingham Forest had offered an amount that Monaco were willing to accept, he didn’t leave – thank goodness. Arsenal haven’t missed the chance yet and hopefully, they won’t.
