A fantastic day on the road for one of Merseyside’s top clubs on Sunday saw the Alliance & Leicester visit Firswood Fishery based in Lathom on the outskirts of Skelmersdale. This superb venue, now renowned as one of the most prolific of all across our local region, is one that can offer every angler everything it could possibly do so towards having a proper days sport on the bank.
Easy parking and access to the two pools, Firswood is a family run establishment that is maintained to the highest level and most importantly is stocked with carp, F1’s, tench, bream and chub amongst many other species that make this a perfect place to make every anglers visit so much worthwhile. In this one, the visit of Alliance saw 15 members lining up on the car park, keen as mustard with a wealth of experience between them.
As predicted the fishery wasn’t ever going to let the occasion down and with that and the level of angling experience amongst this strong band of anglers, it was always going to be more than challenging when competing for the top spot on the day, especially for club points so all important to them. Top honours on the day went to Mike Crumbleholme who weighed in a cracking net of carp and F1’s for first place as he opted for a meat approach which worked seeing him put 92.12.0 on the scales.
John Watson with a superb net with a very close 92.4.0 for second place did just enough to keep third placed Glyn Jones at bay as he also backed up the expected tight one at the top with a very creditable 90.6.0 third place.
