With no international commitments, Lewtas was able to field a strong team with the likes of midfielder Clark, forward Melkamu Frauendorf – who claimed a hat-trick of assists – and left-back Luke Chambers having already accrued senior experience.
“We just felt, with the quality of Luke and Calum, with Bobby on that side, that we would get opportunities,” says Lewtas. “But we also felt that we could kind of catch them (out). I think maybe they thought we would try to overplay at times, but we tried to run them over and then go in behind, and we caused them a lot of problems in the first half.
