Calls for Aaron Ramsdale to reclaim his place in between the sticks for Arsenal are getting louder and louder following another unconvincing performance from David Raya.
The Spaniard, who was the Gunners' fourth and final signing of the summer transfer window having joined on a season-long loan from Brentford, has effectively become Mikel Arteta's first-choice goalkeeper since making his debut against Everton after the September international break.
And despite keeping clean sheets against the Toffees, PSV Eindhoven and Manchester City, there have been a few shaky moments on his behalf. Some have been costly, the RC Lens equaliser is one example that immediately springs to mind, while he was rather fortunate on a couple of occasions in the 1-0 win over the Premier League champions.
Who knows,Saturday's 2-2 draw against Chelsea could prove to be a turning point one way or another for Raya. Now, there's a debate as to whether he was at fault for Mykhailo Mudryk's goal as on one hand, the winger did shank his cross but should the Arsenal star have been so far off his line?
Admittedly, Raya's main strength is his ability to claim crosses. That would explain his starting position as he like everyone watching, was expecting the ball to be crossed into the direction of Raheem Sterling at the back post, so there's not much he could have done about that.
However, he did little to settle his and Arsenal supporters' nerves a few minutes later as, under no pressure, he played the ball straight out to Cole Palmer but managed to recover in time to avoid his error being punished. But in that one moment, the travelling support inside Stamford Bridge made their thoughts on the matter clear by chanting Ramsdale's name immediately after.
