African star's thoughtful, expensive gesture to his mother

An African star has made a thoughtful but somewhat expensive gesture to his mother. 

Ghanaian star Abdul Fatawu plies his trade int he second tier of English football, representing Leicester City who are pushing to get repromoted to the Premier League.

The 20-year-old attacker has contributed significantly to their hopes this season, registering three goals and ten assists in 33 appearances.

The secret ingredient to his success, however, may be something as simple as the way he treats his family. Many believe that having positive familial relationships contributes to an athlete's overall happiness, focus and ultimately performance. 

According to Africa Top Sports, prior to the Foxes' 3-1 win over Norwich City in a Championship encounter, Fatawu flew his mother to England so she would be able to watch her son play live. 

It is also said that his performance on the day drew an appreciative round of applause from those in attendance with his mother, Hajia Maaria, believed to have been screaming his name. 

Some believe that having someone around such as a parent could help reduce the level of stress an athlete finds himself under at various times. 

One of the sport's most renowned and successful managers Sir Alex Ferguson also once emphasised the importance of marriage and, with that, perhaps even creating their own little family. 

“But marriage helps footballers. It helps them settle down. You know where are they are too! It's good for the stability of a footballer,” he said per Tribuna.
