Manchester United forward Amad Diallo has revealed a remarkable detail about his match-winning performance against Liverpool in the FA Cup.
The winger booked United’s place in the FA Cup semi-finals with a last-gasp goal at the end of the second half of extra time. The game proved to be an unforgettable cup tie, with United twice scoring vital equalisers before Amad’s decisive goal, sparking rapturous scenes at Old Trafford.
Amad came on as a substitute for Raphael Varane in the 85th minute, with United 2-1 down, and ultimately won the game for Erik ten Hag’s side. The goal was his first in a United shirt since March 2021. Post-match, Amad admitted that he had played and scored against Liverpool while fasting during Ramadan. Fasting during Ramadan means abstinence from all food or drink, including water, from dawn to sunset.

“I’m fasting now. It’s not easy when you’re fasting but you need to believe in [yourself],” Amad told Malaysian broadcaster Stadium Astro. “I’m fasting for God so I’m very happy to fast and I want to fight for the team if I am on the pitch. Thanks God for this moment.”
It was the type of moment that Amad had arguably deserved after enduring a frustrating season. The 21-year-old has been tipped to play a role for the Reds this term, following his successful loan spell at Sunderland, only for his progress to be halted by an injury in pre-season.
