Ange Postecoglou has revealed why turned away from the Old Trafford pitch to celebrate his Tottenham team equalising against Manchester United. Spurs found themselves behind after just three minutes with Rasmus Hojlund firing in from close-range after both Cristian Romero and Pedro Porro failed to clear.
Despite the bad start, Spurs grew into the game and were very quickly dominating proceedings with an equaliser arriving just before the midway point of the first half courtesy of Richarlison. The Brazil international rose highest to head home a corner from Porro for his sixth goal in as many Premier League games.
However, Man United went back in front just before half time with Marcus Rashford sliding an effort into the far corner. Tottenham would have certainly felt disappointed at being behind heading into the interval however that was quickly forgotten with Rodrigo Bentancur striking an effort beyond Andre Onana to pull Spurs level again with just 46 seconds of the second half being played.
Despite four goals coming in just 46 minutes, no goalkeeper was beaten again with major chances at a premium. The best opportunity of that second period came deep into added time with an unmarked Scott McTominay heading over inside the six-yard box.
After the game, with a point taken back to London, Postecoglou delivered an emphatic verdict with his happiness regarding the performance very clear. «I’m delighted with them, mate,» he said on Sky Sports when asked about the display from his players. «I thought we played really well, we went a goal down — particularly here it can be difficult against Manchester United — and I thought our response was outstanding.
