Ange Postecoglou is facing yet another Tottenham injury dilemma with Cristian Romero out for the next month. The defender, who only returned from a three-match suspension earlier this month, has now joined the likes of Micky van de Ven, James Maddison and Rodrigo Bentancur on the injury list.
The Lilywhites, like many of their Premier League rivals, have been decimated by injuries arriving in quick succession, with the aforementioned trio all picking up long-term issues in November. Since his return, Romero has had to settle into a back four he may not be familiar with, as Destiny Udogie was the latest absentee due to suspension.
And now Spurs must get used to playing without Romero as his precautional withdrawal by Postecoglou against Everton has turned out to be a major issue. «It’s not so great with Romero,» Postecoglou regrettably revealed on Wednesday. «He had a scan the other day. He’s got a hamstring strain. So we’re looking at probably four weeks, five weeks for him.»
With that said, football.london has taken a look at the five options available to Postecoglou to replace Romero in this evening's clash against Brighton.
In November's Tottenham injury crisis, Emerson Royal was the player to be deployed alongside Ben Davies at centre-back following Eric Dier's struggles against Wolves. Even with the return of Romero, the Brazil has remained in the team with an impressive 90-minute left-back performance arriving against Everton in the absence of Destiny Udogie due to suspension.
Given his experience playing alongside Davies, a return in the centre of defence for Emerson would make the most sense.
