Since Vinai Venkatesham announced that he would be leaving Arsenal in September last year, questions have been present regarding how things would change. Venkatesham has been with the club since 2010 and has occupied a number of different roles before being appointed as Chief Executive Officer in 2020.
This in itself came after the departure of Raul Sanllehi. Venkatesham had been operating in the role of Managing Director prior to that, but as the club looked to streamline its executive team to ensure maximum efficiency, he took on more responsibilities.
At that point in Arsenal's executive team, Mikel Arteta's role had been changed from head coach to manager, Edu was the club's technical director, and Huss Fahmy was head of football operations. Fahmy then left at the end of 2020 and was replaced by Richard Garlick as Director of Football Operations in 2021.
Garlick arrived at Arsenal having been Director of Football Administration at West Brom, and the first ever Director of Football for the Premier League. His responsibilities at the Premier League were varied to say the least. The youth department, liaising with academies and managing competitions from under-nines level through to the under-23s all fell under his remit. Garlick was also part of implementing the Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP), as well as developing coaching pathways and schemes, including the Elite Coach Apprenticeship Scheme (ECAS).
As well as this Garlick represented the Premier League on the board of PGMOL. Included in his responsibilities there was introducing VAR to players, pundits and managers across the division. He also had a hand in the Premier League fixture list where he would help schedule kick off times.
