According to reports, Chelsea are ‘considering’ a move for Brentford star Ivan Toney, who is also being linked with Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.
Chelsea have spent over £1bn on signings since Todd Boehly’s consortium completed their takeover of the Premier League giants over a year ago.
They are building for the future as most of their signings have been players aged 23 or under but they are still without a world-class striker.
Nicolas Jackson was bought from Villarreal for around £30m in the summer and he’s scored one goal in his first four Premier League appearances.
Jackson should have scored his second Premier League goal over the weekend but he missed a sitter in Chelsea’s 1-0 loss against Nottingham Forest.
Chelsea are still struggling in front of goal and they are being hampered by the absence of Christopher Nkunku, who suffered a serious injury during pre-season.
The Evening Standard are reporting that ‘Brentford’s Toney is under consideration as a potential January target but, for now, Chelsea must find goal solutions from within their squad’.
Toney is understood to be valued at around £80m and he was linked with Man Utd and Tottenham during the summer transfer window.
The striker is out of action until January as he is currently serving a ban after his betting breaches but he recently indicated that the team he signs for next must be “the right club”.
“The next club I go to, if I was to move, would be the right club,” Toney said. “I’ve been a Liverpool fan my whole life, but from young I’ve liked Arsenal.
“I’ve liked watching Arsenal and how they play and how passionate their fans are. I’m a Liverpool boy at heart.”
