Arsenal confirm first summer transfer as Marquinhos seals Fluminense move
Marquinhos has left Arsenal to join Brazilian side Fluminense.
The 20-year-old joined Arsenal in the summer of 2022 from Sao Paolo for a fee of around £3million. The deal was viewed at the time as one for the long-term as the Gunners seek to expand their connections in south America.
Marquinhos made an almost instant impact though grabbing a goal and an assist on his first team debut in the Europa League against FC Zurich. «He’s earned the respect and admiration of everybody here,» Mikel Arteta said after his impressive debut. «It was a big step because he hasn’t played enough minutes with us, we were willing to give him the opportunity, I think he deserved it, I think he took it really well and he’s a player that needs to keep developing. In order to do that, we have to give him minutes and opportunities.
The Brazilian would go on to make just four more appearances for Mikel Arteta's side, however, playing just three minutes in the Premier League.
He was sent on loan to Norwich for the remainder of the 2022/23 season, but failed to make too much of an impact with the Championship side, after again scoring and assisting on his debut. With Bukayo Saka, Reiss Nelson, Fabio Vieira, Gabriel Martinelli, Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Jesus all ahead of him in the pecking order the decision was taken to send the winger out on loan again to Ligue 1 side Nantes for the 2023/24 campaign.

Once again Marquinhos struggled, though, making just one start before being recalled in January. He will now return to his homeland with Fluminense.
