Arsenal could finally be about to complete their first January transfer now a £24million agreement is in place. The Gunners were expecting a quiet winter window regarding new signings following their £200million summer spend to sign Declan Rice, Kai Havertz and Jurrien Timber.
Injuries have significantly hampered Arteta's plans this season though with Thomas Partey and Timber, the duo who started as full-backs for the Premier League opener against Nottingham Forest, missing the bulk of the season. Defensive injuries elsewhere have also taken place with Oleksandr Zinchenko, Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu each missing a number of weeks.
Gabriel Magalhaes is the latest to potentially be out of action with Declan Rice also a doubt to face Forest on Tuesday after leaving the win over Crystal Palace with a hamstring issue. «No, he was feeling some tightness,» Arteta said after the game of his club record signing. «I don’t know what muscle it was. But when he says that at 3-0 then obviously we don’t want to take any risks.»
On the Brazil international, he added: «The same with big Gabi. He had some discomfort from a tackle in the first half and he was struggling a bit so it was the right moment to take him off the field.» A new defender arriving over the next few days is clearly the priority but it does not appear as though Arsenal will be forced into a panic transfer.
Galatasaray star Sacha Boey was one option for Arsenal in the summer and he has been linked with an exit this month. However, Bayern Munich have been the interested party this time round and after some tense negotiations that deal has been finalised with Boey joining for €29million (£24.8m).
