Today marks a big day in the racing calendar as the Grand National 2024 weights are revealed.
The Liverpool ECHO is attending the unveiling of the weights as the event is held in St George's Hall today, on Tuesday, February 20. At the event, important information about weights are published which could help determine who will win the greatest steeplechase in the world.
If a horse is carrying less weight than their rivals, it can make all the difference. The weights are part of the handicap system to level the field and give everyone a fair chance.

The horse carrying the most weight will be the highest rated in the British handicapper's eyes. The Grand National betting markets really start heating up once the weights are announced, with people now knowing what their horses will have to carry in order to win.
This year there will be some changes to the Grand National, instead of the regular 40 horses all taking their chance , there will be 34 horses and jockeys line up to the start in order to improve the safety of the race.
The height of certain fences will also be reduced to help reduce the number of fallers in the race which will Ultimately reduce the risk of life in the race. The first fence will be brought 60 yards closer . The iconic steeplechase has previously got underway at 5.15.pm since 2016. However, it has now been confirmed the 2024 edition on April 13 will start at 4pm.
