Arsenal's next transfer revealed ahead of January window as Edu priority made clear
Transfer expert David Ornstein has predicted Arsenal's next significant recruit to be a centre-forward. The Gunners currently have the likes of Gabriel Jesus, Leandro Trossard, Eddie Nketiah and Kai Havertz as options through the middle, although Jesus is out injured with a hamstring issue at the minute.
Ahead of the January transfer window, the likes of Brentford frontman Ivan Toney, Napoli's Victor Osimhen and RB Leipzig youngster Benjamin Sesko have all been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium. It remains to be seen whether or not sporting director Edu will look to recruit a new striker in the New Year, with Ornstein now giving his thoughts on the situation.
When asked if he sees the north London outfit dipping into the market in January to bring in a new midfielder amid Kai Havertz's ongoing struggles, Ornstein replied, via The Athletic: «No.
»Havertz needs time and has Arsenal’s full support. When they next make a significant recruit, I reckon that will be a striker, but it will depend on all the normal factors like money, availability, existing options, injuries and more.
«There was no plan to sign a striker last summer and I suspect in an ideal world for Arsenal that would have been the stance for January, too, with the focus being on next summer. Let’s see if that changes, but I don’t know of it doing so yet.»
Former Arsenal hero Kevin Campbell recently gave his say on Arsenal's striker situation, claiming that the aforementioned Osimhen may be too pricey. Instead, he argued that recruiting Toney, alongside a winger like Pedro Neto, made more sense from a financial standpoint.
