Aston Villa could be set to make a huge impact on this season's Premier League title race in just a few days. Arsenal and Manchester City are the two obvious frontrunners following their intense battle in the last campaign, however the reigning champions have hit a major stumbling block.
Pep Guardiola's side are winless in four Premier League games with their run of three consecutive draws ended on Wednesday evening. Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham had all been able to snatch a point against Man City with Aston Villa now beating them to extend their unbelievable winning run at Villa Park to 14 games.
Unai Emery's side dominated the game with 22 shots in comparison to Man City's lowly two and after a major onslaught for much of the contest, Villa got their reward when Leon Bailey saw his deflected effort fly into the back of the net after 74 minutes. Ahead of the game, Guardiola made a surprising claim about Man City's title chances given their recent form. «My feeling today is we are going to win the Premier League – if we play at the levels we did against Liverpool and Tottenham, we are going to win it again,» he boldly admitted earlier this week.
«People don’t believe it after three draws but we are going to do it again. We know that it is not easy [winning four Premier League titles in a row], no team has done it yet, and that is why the difficulty is there. But if you ask what I’m feeling, I want to do it again.»
