Liverpool have reportedly fallen behind Bayern Munich in the race to appoint Xabi Alonso as their new manager.
The Reds will be busy working behind the scenes searching for Jurgen Klopp's successor in the Anfield dugout. Klopp announced on January 26 that he would be stepping down at the end of the season, which has led to intense speculation about who could be his replacement.
Alonso has been listed as the early favourite to replace Klopp ever since the news was first announced. The 42-year-old is looking to guide Bayer Leverkusen to the Bundesliga title, who are currently 10 points clear of Bayern Munich at the top of the table with 10 games left to play.
Bayern will also be looking for a new manager, with Thomas Tuchel set to depart at the end of the season. Alonso has been listed as the favourite to take over at the Allianz Arena as well and now a report has emerged providing an update on the situation.

Liverpool, though, are said to still be in the race to appoint Alonso, should they decide that he is the ideal candidate to replace Klopp. The report adds that there is still the possibility that Alonso will remain at Leverkusen beyond this summer despite the intense speculation about his future.
