Former Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov spoke to football.london about Kai Havertz, Mikel Arteta and Arsenal's Premier League title chances
Dimitar Berbatov shares some similarities to Arsenal summer signing Kai Havertz.
Both tall, talented and slick with the ball at their feet. Both made their names at Bayer Leverkusen before moving to a London club in the Premier League, Havertz joining Chelsea and Berbatov joining Tottenham Hotspur.
But that is really where the comparisons end. After establishing himself as one of the Bundesliga's best players, Berbatov joined Spurs in 2006 and instantly hit the ground running, earning a place in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year in his debut campaign before helping the north Londoners win a League Cup in his sophomore season.
That impressive form helped earn him a big-money move to Manchester United, where he won two Premier League titles and a Golden Boot among other individual and team accolades. Meanwhile, Havertz's time in England hasn't gone quite as smoothly.
"I love Havertz because he came from Leverkusen where I played for five years", the Betfair ambassador told football.london. "I will always back him to succeed but it is going to be tough and he can feel it and sense it.
"I can see by his performance, that he knows that he needs to do better. He knows that fans, some of the fans, let's say or the general public are a bit like: 'He's not performing well, he's not giving assists, scoring goals or creating chances' as much as everybody is expecting.
"So that's why I want him to not overdo things. Don't overcomplicate things, don't be like: 'Yes, I'll show you. I will show everybody.' Because of this, you start to overcomplicate the game.
