Birmingham City sack Wayne Rooney: What was his record as manager?

Wayne Rooney has been sacked by Birmingham City after less than three months in the job as manager.

The former England captain had his own supporters turn on him during Birmingham's 3-0 defeat to Leeds United on New Year's Day, and the club decided his role was no longer tenable.

Garry Cook, the controversial former Manchester City CEO now in the same position at Birmingham, said: "We are committed to doing what is necessary to bring success to St. Andrew’s.

"Unfortunately, Wayne’s time with us did not go as planned and we have decided to move in a different direction. The search for a successor begins with immediate effect and we will update supporters when we have further news." 

Following the Leeds defeat, Rooney pleaded for investment in the January transfer window and insisted he is a "fighter".

He said: "I get that football is about opinions. I've obviously spoken to the owners, that's private between me and the owners.

"I think what's clear is we need to get players in. We're going through a difficult period, there's no denying that, and we need to do what we can to come out of it."

While it's unclear who will take over at the club permanently, a member of the existing staff will take temporary charge, in Steve Spooner. Carl Robinson, Rooney's assistant, will depart. 

Rooney's team also released a statement where they addressed the difficult time endured at the club.

The Blues travel to Hull City on the weekend in the third round of the FA Cup, before taking on Swansea City at home in their next league game. 

He leaves the West Midlands side in 20th place in the Championship, just six points above the relegation zone. 

The Manchester United legend was controversially appointed back in October as
