Welcome to the future – and BirminghamLive’s coverage of Birmingham City’s takeover. We’ll have all the news and opinion throughout what is set to be an historic day in this embattled club’s story.
American businessman Tom Wagner is set to secure a 45.64 per cent stake in the club, whilst also buying St Andrew’s outright, and in doing so taking control of Blues – despite the continued presence of Birmingham Sports Holdings as the biggest shareholder. It is assumed Wagner will in time complete a full takeover.
With the agreement in place all that remains is for the BSH shareholders to agree to the transaction, which can be found here, at an Extraordinary General Meeting which takes place at 9am UK time this morning. After that we’ll be waiting for the formal announcement – and for the first day of Wagner era to truly begin.
We’ll learn more about Wagner’s plans, the people he intends to bring in to implement those plans – with Garry Cook expected to arrive as CEO – and how he will make good on the promises he made to Blues fans in his open letter a couple of months ago.
Stay tuned and we’ll bring you all the action on a dramatic day in the history of Birmingham City and instant reaction from our Blues writer Alex Dicken who is currently in Spain covering the team at their pre-season training camp.
