Gabriel Jesus has been spotted in Arsenal training ahead of Arsenal's weekend clash with Fulham in the Premier League
Gabriel Jesus has been spotted back in Arsenal training after suffering a knee injury ahead of the Community Shield at the end of July.
The Brazilian underwent a minor procedure to correct a lingering issue having suffered a medial collateral ligament injury in last year’s World Cup but looks to be closing on a return.
The former Manchester City player was filmed by Sky Sports taking part in the warm-ups ahead of team training. Mikel Arteta said that the striker underwent the procedure as it was the best thing to do.
"Nobody expected it and we had to do a little procedure there. But unfortunately it was the best thing to do.
"[To do it] as quickly as possible the better. We made that decision. I'm sure he will be back soon and very fit."
Eddie Nketiah has filled in the central striker role in the absence of Jesus. He scored the opening goal against Nottingham Forest before winning a penalty to help beat Crystal Palace 1-0 at Selhurst Park last weekend.
Jesus would need to make something of a miraculous recovery this week to play some part against Fulham at the weekend. However, he could possibly return in time for the visit of Manchester United the following week ahead of an international break where the additional time will allow for further building of fitness.
Mikel Arteta will speak to the press tomorrow and is sure to provide an update on Jesus. Live updates and a full transcript of the Arsenal manager’s words will be available o the football.london website.
