Brentford eyeing transfer swoop that could open door for Ivan Toney exit as Arsenal and Chelsea lurk

Brentford are eyeing up a move for Norwich's American striker Josh Sargent, as they prepare for the potential departure of their top scorer Ivan Toney in the summer. Big clubs like Arsenal and Chelsea are reportedly interested in Toney, who is 27.

Toney's boss Thomas Frank admitted last month that his star striker would likely depart the club when the transfer window reopens, with the England international soon to enter the final year of his contract.

Sargent, meanwhile, has been showing his skills in the Championship with Norwich and could be ready to return to the Premier League. The 24-year-old has already played in the top flight and is enjoying the best season of his career this season.

Sargent has scored 11 goals in 17 games this term. He netted 13 times last season and only twice the year before when he was playing in the Premier League. Sargent also has international experience having played for the United States 23 times.

Norwich are currently seventh in the Championship and if they get promoted, it's likely to make any move tougher with the Canaries keen to keep their best players.

Any new Brentford striker will have to fight for a place in the starting line-up with Igor Thiago. The Brazilian is set to join Brentford in the summer from Club Brugge.

Thiago, who is 22, has agreed a five-year deal with Thomas Frank's team.
