Liverpool are busy planning for a new era without Jurgen Klopp, while the fate of talisman Mohamed Salah has led to plenty of transfer speculation surrounding one potential replacement for the Egyptian King: Kylian Mbappe.
France superstar Mbappe is set to exit Paris Saint-Germain this summer on a free transfer after informing the Parisian giants of his intention not to extend his current contract beyond the end of this season. That means arguably the greatest player of his generation will be available for nothing this summer; though 'nothing' doesn't quite cover the extraordinary contract it would require to actually secure the 25-year-old's signature.
Mbappe has been repeatedly linked with a move to the Premier League in recent years, though Real Madrid are currently heavy favourites to land a player they have courted for years now - but a deal is not done just yet given a difference in numbers on either side. While the Premier League is the clear financial frontrunner in Europe when it comes to TV rights, transfer fees and wages, even the richest among the English top flight have a job on their hands when it comes to making the numbers add up for Mbappe, as Klopp conceded last year.
The stars looked to be aligning for FSG to eventually make their move for Mbappe once Mo Salah make a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia, though the Egyptian star remains at Anfield and looks as strong a force as ever on the right flank. With the Reds now facing an uncertain future given the shock news that Klopp will step down as manager at the end of the season, Merseyside is currently a harder sell than Madrid with no successor confirmed - even if the talented Xabi Alonso is the favourite for the hot seat.
