'Challenging at times' - Frank Lampard gives verdict on Everton home support as dreadful run continues

Former Everton manager Frank Lampard believes the expectations of the Goodison Park crowd can be both a help and a hindrance for the club's managers.

Lampard, who managed Blues between January 2022 and January 2023 before he was sacked with Everton sitting in the relegation zone, was explaining why managers like Carlo Ancelotti, Marco Silva and himself found it difficult to bring success to Goodison Park.

Speaking on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football, Lampard, who most recently enjoyed a spell as Chelsea's interim manager at the end of last season, was reacting to Everton's 2-1 defeat to Luton Town and offered insight as to why such results have become a common occurrence at Goodison Park in recent years.

"Goodison Park, it can be an amazing place," said Lampard, when asked for his take on the defeat. "I think sometimes some of the bigger hitters in the league come there and we managed to get results there. That's gone on since me, and happened a long time before me.

"But when you're given the onus of a game, and you've got a promoted team it brings up different challenges: Can you control a game? What can you do on the ball? Can you break a team down? And of course when these teams are coming up [from the Championship] now these teams are very organised.

"They are ready to go. They know that if they can stifle you and stop you, these teams will be set up to do that, I'm sure Luton with a back five will make it very difficult, and you get your nose in front with a set pieces; it's a consistent theme. It's something that's a frustration
