Chelsea and England defender Jess Carter is among the names to feature on the 2023 Football Black List – an initiative that aims to spotlight the most influential Black people in British football.
Founded in 2008 by sports journalists Leon Mann and Rodney Hinds, the Football Black List highlights trailblazers working in all areas of the game from the Black community, with a panel of experts from across the football pyramid voting on who makes the cut following a raft of public nominations.
Carter, who helped Chelsea to a fourth consecutive Women's Super League (WSL) title last term and played a huge role in England's progression to the Women's World Cup final, is one of the stars nominated in the Players category, which recognises the outstanding work some of the game's star names do off the pitch.
While Carter's footballing talents are undeniable, the defender also devotes much of her time to amplifying good causes, such as Cancer Research, and is widely admired for her altruistic spirit. Also nominated in the Players category is Carter's England teammate, Nikita Parris, who joined Manchester United from Arsenal in the summer of 2022.
