Chelsea are now two from two in pre-season games with Brighton the latest side to fall victim to Mauricio Pochettino's new-look Blues team.
Pochettino saw his side beat the Seagulls 4-3 in a seven-goal thriller in the first game of the Premier League Summer Series in Philadelphia. Goals from Christopher Nkunku, Mykhailo Mudryk, Conor Gallagher and Nicolas Jackson were enough for the Blues to make it back-to-back wins in pre-season.
A total of 20 players – just as they were against Wrexham in the week – were used by Pochettino as he continues to experiment with his new players ahead of the Premier League season kicking off next month. However, one man stood out in comparison to the other 19 and that was new signing Jackson.
The 22-year-old striker arrived at Stamford Bridge last month after Chelsea chose to trigger the £30million release clause in his Villarreal contract. After a strong end to last season, that saw the Senegal international net nine in his last eight La Liga matches, there was plenty of interest in Jackson but the Blues were the quickest to act and bring him in.
Jackson made his debut for Chelsea in the 5-0 win against Wrexham in North Carolina earlier in the week. The striker caught the eye of many during that game because of his impressive link-up play in the final third and he also set up Ian Maatsen's second goal of the evening in Chapel Hill.
It was once again the connection he has already formed with his new teammates that impressed against Brighton. Coming on as a substitute at half-time, Jackson was immediately involved after producing an intelligent assist to Mudryk, who smashed the ball into the bottom corner from outside the box.
