Raheem Sterling could face a ban after a video from Chelsea’s own TikTok account appeared to show him throwing a missile into the crowd.
The incident occurred following Cole Palmer’s equaliser from the penalty spot after Cristian Romero was given his marching orders in Chelsea’s 4-1 victory at Tottenham on Monday.
Palmer celebrated his leveller by putting his finger to his lips in front of the home fans at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, where he was joined by teammates including Sterling.
However, a pitchside video from Chelsea’s TikTok account shows Palmer being hit on the leg by an object launched from a part of the stadium housing home supporters.
Sterling then appears to throw the object back into the crowd before running back to prepare for the restart.
According to the Daily Mail, the incident that was not spotted at the time is now being reviewed as they look to determine whether any further action needs to be taken.
Sterling could face a similar punishment to that of Richarlison who was banned by the FA for throwing a flare back into the crowd after scoring for Everton against Chelsea in 2022.
Chelsea legend Didier Drogba suffered a similar fate when he was slapped with a three-match ban in 2008 for throwing a coin at Burnley fans in a League Cup tie.
Sterling, who saw his first-half strike ruled out by VAR, was instrumental in his side’s comprehensive victory against nine-man Spurs.
Destiny Udogie was also dismissed in the first half for two-bookable offences, leaving Ange Postecoglou’s side in disarray.
Spot on from Cole!
