Chelsea have been subject to lots of criticism for their controversial recruitment policy implemented by new owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali. In the last 18 months or so, the Blues have forked out millions on bringing some of the most promising teenagers to Stamford Bridge.
In theory, the American billionaires installed a brilliant new transfer philosophy which eliminates the middle-man, transforming Chelsea's fortunes on and off the pitch. However, in practise, Boehly and Eghbali put all their eggs in one basket and completely disregarded the challenge which comes with building an entirely new squad predominantly made up of young players.
In the first summer transfer window after buying the west London club from Roman Abramovich, the Blues welcomed an influx of teenagers to Cobham training ground; Eddie Beach, Omari Hutchinson, Cesare Casadei, Zak Sturge, Carney Chukwuemeka and Gabriel Slonina.
Then, in January, Chelsea wrapped up deals for Andrey Santos, Malo Gusto and Jimmy-Jay Morgan before signing seven more youngsters in the summer; Romeo Lavia, Angelo Gabriel, Lesley Ugochukwu, Deivid Washington, Diego Moreira, Alex Matos, Dujuan Richards and Ishe Samuels-Smith.
Not to mention the arrivals of Mykhailo Mudryk, Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo, among others too. For all the criticism which the west London outfit have received, their brave transfer policy is already beginning to pay dividends.
For instance, Angelo, as aforementioned, joined Chelsea in the summer. The 19-year-old winger arrived from Santos for just £13million and, despite impressing in pre-season, he was shipped out on loan to Strasbourg where he's continued to catch the eye.
