Chelsea have been told that it would take ‘a lot of money’ if they wish to sign Southampton full-back Kyle Walker-Peters in the January window.
The Blues have been long-term admirers of the former Tottenham man, who was handed his debut by Mauricio Pochettino. He has been a key player for Southampton this season as they challenge for promotion straight back to the Premier League after suffering relegation last season.
It is claimed by TEAMtalk that ‘conversations’ over a possible January move for Walker-Peters have taken place with the club and the player’s agent. Chelsea are reportedly considering making a bid before the end of the window in just over a week.
Should they decide to make a move, then Chelsea may have to heed a warning sent by Southampton manager Russell Martin. The Saints boss has given the latest on the future of his full-back.
“I spoke to Kyle. I also know his agent really well. There’s been no conversation at all about him wanting to leave,” he told BBC Radio Solent this week.
“He’s in such a good place. I think he’s enjoying himself. It would take a lot of money to prise him away.”

There is surprise that Walker-Peters remained at St Mary’s following Southampton’s relegation last season, but the full-back has been a key player for the club this season.
The 26-year-old has played in every single minute of the Championship campaign so far, scoring twice and providing two more assists from right-back. Southampton are currently in third place in the Championship, three points behind Ipswich in second place and 10 points adrift of leaders
