Chelsea look set to sign a new striker, according to David Ornstein.
Todd Boehly has spent over £1billion in order to stamp his authority on the football club. Despite this, they have struggled to land a goalscoring forward with Nicolas Jackson struggling to deliver the goods on a regular basis.
In a piece for The Athletic, transfer expert Ornstein has laid down the law on the latest possible transfers for Premier League clubs. In it, he doubts whether Brentford striker Ivan Toney is a key target of the Blues but does not rule out other names in the speculation mill.
“Toney is not believed to be as high on Chelsea’s recruitment list as some have claimed,” Ornstein said. “But, until a firm target emerges, they will assess multiple options and, given the paucity of elite players in this role, similar candidates are being studied by many clubs.”
One outlandish target for the Blues has been Victor Osimhen. The Napoli striker has shone in Serie A for a number of years and Ornstein believes that rivals Arsenal are not close to acquiring the Nigerian.
He wrote: “Even if Victor Osimhen, Benjamin Sesko and Evan Ferguson are among those admired by Arsenal (and many other clubs), it is not anticipated they will land at the Emirates Stadium soon.”

Chelsea have shown their financial muscles under Boehly and certainly have the ammunition to bring an Osimhen-type figure in. Even if FFP is an issue, the club could sell off many fringe assets as they did last season.
