Chelsea will beat Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final and here's why
The first big showpiece event of the season takes place at Wembley Stadium on Sunday as Chelsea take on Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final. It is a big opportunity for Mauricio Pochettino to win his first piece of silverware in England after a barren spell with Tottenham Hotspur.
Standing in their way though are Liverpool — a team who will be looking to win the first piece of silverware on their quest for an historic quadruple this season. The Reds are top of the Premier League and pose a significant threat to Pochettino's Blues.
The Reds will go into the clash as favourites, given their standing in the Premier League compared to Chelsea. However, the Blues can beat Liverpool and there are good reasons why they should.
Chelsea have their injury issues. Long-term injured Reece James, Wesley Fofana, Marc Cucurella and Romeo Lavia will be missing, as will Benoit Badiashile, while Thiago Silva could also be out. It is an injury list that does not look good when it comes to naming a competent defence.
However, if Chelsea's is bad, you can argue Liverpool's is worse. Alisson, Joel Matip, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota, Dominik Szoboszlai, Thiago, Curtis Jones and Darwin Nunez all missed the match with Luton on Wednesday night.
Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Thiago and Jota are all guaranteed to miss out against Chelsea, while there remain questions marks over Salah, Jones, Szoboszlai and Nunez heading into Sunday's showpiece.
