Chelsea wonderkid reveals clever Enzo Fernandez advice as Mauricio Pochettino decision made easy

Carney Chukwuemeka has revealed what advice Enzo Fernandez has given him as he looks to secure a place in the Chelsea starting lineup this season. The 19-year-old midfielder, who joined the Blues from Aston Villa in a deal worth £20million last summer, faces tough competition for opportunities under Mauricio Pochettino but he seems determined to force himself into the side.

The Chelsea boss has a wealth of exciting young talent at his disposal, with Chukwuemeka up against Conor Gallagher, Andrey Santos, Cesare Casadei and potentially Moises Caicedo for a place in double pivot alongside Fernandez. In an interview with Sky Sports, the England youth international insisted that he wants to stay in west London and work alongside Pochettino.

"[Pochettino]’s come in and said that he sees the talent that he wants to develop and help develop me," said Chukwuemeka. «Whether that’s in a month or six months, but I want to stay and prove to everyone what I can do, and help the club. At the end of the day we’ll sit down and come together to decide what’s best for me.»

With the teenage sensation desperate to secure a role in the Chelsea first-team, he's been seeking advice from Fernandez. Speaking to Hayters TV, Chukwuemeka said: «Me and him always talk in training.

»He always gives me advice on some passes, and some things he does that I can add to my game and vice versa. It’s top to play with Enzo, he’s a great guy and a great player."

Following Chelsea's 5-0 win over Wrexham in the United States, Pochettino heaped tremendous praise on Chukwuemeka, Santos and Casadei. As quoted by the club’s official website, the Blues boss said: «The profile is very good, the two names and Carney [Chukwuemeka].
